Lane closures scheduled on Hanover Avenue bridge over I-287 in Morris County
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Single lane closures are scheduled Saturday on Hanover Avenue over Interstate 287 as work continues on a bridge replacement project in Morris County, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, one lane in each direction will be closed on Hanover Avenue/County Route 650 on the bridge spanning I-287 in Hanover and Morris Township. The closures are needed to restripe the roadway, install barriers and shift traffic.
By 5 p.m., traffic on Hanover Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Westbound traffic will be shifted left into the eastbound left travel lane, while eastbound traffic will continue using the right travel lane.
The new traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for about one month while crews relocate utilities and remove the westbound sidewalk.
NJDOT said traffic on I-287 is not expected to be affected by the work. Motorists traveling through the area are advised to slow down, use caution and expect possible delays.
The work is part of a $17.5 million federally funded project to replace the concrete bridge deck on the Hanover Avenue bridge over I-287. The project will also include improvements to drainage, lighting, signage and fencing, along with new sidewalks and curb ramps designed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028, according to NJDOT.
Officials noted the schedule may change depending on weather or other factors. Motorists can check www.511nj.org for traffic updates and construction information.
