Lopatcong Township Fire Department to use former Friendly’s property at Phillipsburg Mall for training

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Starting Wednesday, Feb. 28, the Lopatcong Fire Department will utilize the former Friendly’s property at the Phillipsburg Mall for training, according to Lopatcong Township Fire Chief Louis E. Laford Jr.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our members to train in an acquired structure for free and gain valuable expense at no expense to you, the taxpayer,” LaFord said.

There will be fire department personnel, apparatus from both local anbd mutual partners (at times), and fake white stage smoke generated from smoke machines utilized during these training exercises. Please do not be alarmed, LaFord said.

“We anticipate no disruption to the traffic flow on Route 22 East, the entrance of the Phillipsburg, nor the outer roadway that leads into the rear entrance of Sycamore Landing. We ask the area residents to be mindful of our presence. Again, it is only a training session, and there is no need to rubberneck, LaFord said.

The hours of training will be:

  • Weekdays, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (subject to change)
  • Weekends, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (subject to change)

“If you see any smoke coming from the building when fire personnel are not present or outside the training hours posted above, don’t hesitate to contact 9-1-1 and report the situation you are observing,” LaFord said.
