
Man accused of assaulting woman with knife in Warren County
LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A Phillipsburg man was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly assaulting a woman with a kitchen knife during a dispute in Lopatcong Township, police said. according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Sunday, July 7, at approximately 5:11 a.m., officers responded to a reported dispute in the 1000 block of Birch Lane. During the investigation, police identified the suspect as 52-year-old Wayne M. Turpin of Phillipsburg.
Authorities determined that during the altercation, Turpin assaulted a woman with a kitchen knife, causing serious injuries. The victim, who was known to the suspect, was transported to St. Luke’s Warren Hospital for treatment and was later released.
Turpin was arrested at the scene and taken to the Lopatcong Township Police Department for processing. He was charged with second-degree aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, andthird-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Second-degree crimes carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison, while third-degree crimes carry a maximum of 5 years.
The investigation was conducted by the Lopatcong Township Police Department, with assistance from the Pohatcong Township Police Department.
