Man accused of sexually assaulting 4-year-old boy in Morris County park

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County)– A homeless man is accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy in a Morristown park, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll.

John Dowd, 56, who is known to frequent Morristown, has been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Carroll said

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was notified on May 15 of an incident that had taken place on May 9 at George Gramby Memorial Park, located in Morristown, Carroll said.

The boy reported that he was sexually assaulted by an unknown man while in the park. He was later identified as Dowd. He was located, taken into custody, and formally charged on May 15, Carroll said.

Dowd has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing, Carroll said.

The incident remains under investigation and no further information was available.
