Man accused of threatening to kill police sergeant during traffic stop in Morris County

MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — A Morris County man is facing charges after allegedly threatening to kill a Mendham Township police sergeant during a traffic stop.

Earlier last week, Sgt. Kalweit conducted a motor vehicle stop at about 8:30 a.m. after observing a traffic violation. The driver, identified as a 31-year-old man from Morristown, was arrested and charged with DWI. He was also charged with terroristic threats after allegedly threatening to kill Sgt. Kalweit during the roadside investigation, police said.

In addition to the criminal charges, the driver was issued tickets for refusing to submit to breath tests, as well as for the consumption and possession of open alcoholic containers, police said.

After being processed, the driver was turned over to the Morristown Police Department due to an outstanding warrant.
