Man arrested in theft from Morris County bagel shop tip jar

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A North Bergen man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly stealing cash from a tip jar at a Flanders bagel shop, police said.

At about 3:03 p.m. on Nov. 11, Officer Evans responded to Rt. 206 Bagels and Deli, 240 Route 206 in the Flanders section of Mount Olive Township, for a report of theft. Police said a man had taken about $21 from a tip jar on the counter before leaving the store.

The suspect was found a short time later at the Wawa on Flanders Netcong Road and identified as Mohammad N. Salem, 48, of North Bergen, according to police.

A records check revealed Salem had an active NCIC warrant for his arrest out of Passaic County. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with theft of movable property.

Salem was later turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on the warrant, police said.
