Man arrested with assault weapon, drugs in car at Central Jersey Jazz Festival in Hunterdon County
FLEMINGTON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Virginia Man was arrested after police find an assault weapon and drugs in his car during the Central Jersey Jazz Festival in Flemington Borough Saturday, according to police.
On Sept. 9, during the Central Jersey Jazz Fest, police were made aware of a suspicious man parked in his vehicle, who was possibly unconscious, police said.
Officers located the man, later identified as Douglas W. Courter, 42 of Woodbridge, Virginia, who was extremely uncooperative. Officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from his vehicle and that Courter was attempting to hide crack cocaine In his pants, police said.
After he refused to follow orders to exit, officers removed Courter from his vehicle. A subsequent search of the subject and the vehicle revealed quantities of suspected crack cocaine, marijuana and various other drug paraphernalia, police said.
Also located within arm’s reach was a fully loaded Smith & Wesson, M+P 15 rifle with a high capacity 30 round magazine and collapsible stock, police said.
Courter was charged with possession of an assault firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, possession of crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, obstruction and for being under the influence of CDS. He was then lodged in the Warren county Jail.
