Man who failed to move over or slow down on roadway charged with DWI in Byram Township

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was charged with DWI after police caught him failing to move over or slow down for them on a roadway in Byram Township, according to police.

On Nov. 23, two Byram Township police officers were assisting a possible disabled motorist on Route 206. Officers had their vehicles parked on the shoulder of the roadway with their emergency lights activated when a vehicle drove by and allegedly accelerated past them without slowing down or moving over, police said.

One of the officers left from the disabled motor vehicle and stopped the car, police said.

While the officer was speaking to the driver, who was identified as James Masucci, 52, of Byram Township, the officer felt he may be intoxicated, police said.

Masucci was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and transported to the police station where he consented to and failed two breath tests, police said.

Masucci was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to change lanes or slow for stopped emergency vehicles, careless driving and reckless driving. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
