Motorcyclist seriously injured after striking bear on I-78 in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon Couty) — A motorcyclist was seriously injured late Saturday after his motorcycle struck a bear on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, according to New Jersey State Police.

At approximately 11:21 p.m. on June 7, troopers responded to a crash on I-78 West near milepost 22.4 in Clinton Township, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation determined that a Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 31-year-old Luis Borges, of Phillipsburg, was traveling westbound when a bear entered the roadway. The motorcycle struck the animal, causing it to overturn and eject Borges, state police said.

Borges sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available, authorities said.
