New Jersey launches World Cup labor resource hub for workers, businesses ahead of FIFA 2026

TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has launched a new online resource hub aimed at helping workers, employers and community organizations prepare for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ events coming to the state next summer.

The website, announced Monday, is intended to provide centralized information about labor laws, workplace protections and compliance requirements ahead of the international tournament, which will bring eight matches — including the championship final — to New Jersey.

The FIFA World Cup 2026™ Final is scheduled for July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford. Tournament matches in the region will run from June 13 through July 19.

Officials said the event is expected to generate increased demand for workers across industries including hospitality, transportation, hotels and restaurants.

“These games are an exciting moment for New Jersey’s economy and our communities,” said Acting Commissioner Kevin D. Jarvis. “We want to ensure that businesses and workers alike have easy access to the information and support they need to make this a successful experience for everyone. When labor laws are followed, everybody wins because workers are protected, and costly violations are avoided.”

The online hub includes information for employers about wage laws, worker classification, business registration and compliance requirements. Workers and volunteers can also access information about workplace protections, overtime rules and how to file complaints.

Educational materials are available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole and Arabic.

“Hosting eight FIFA World Cup 2026™ matches, including the Final, is a tremendous honor for our region and a major economic opportunity for New Jersey,” said Alex Lasry, CEO of the NYNJ FIFA World Cup 2026™ Host Committee. “We are proud to partner with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development to support this centralized resource for workers and businesses to keep New Jersey workers safe as they prepare to take part in this historic moment.”

State officials said the department also plans to provide technical assistance and outreach to businesses expected to participate in tournament-related activities, including vendors, restaurants, hotels and event organizers.

“Our goal is to ensure everyone involved in tournament activities has a safe, fair, and equitable work experience,” added Acting Commissioner Jarvis. “We encourage participating vendors, businesses, workers, and volunteers to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.”

The department also said it is working with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office to monitor potential human trafficking risks associated with large-scale sporting events and is providing additional educational resources through the website.
