NJ TRANSIT invites high school students to design bus wraps for America’s 250th anniversary

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey high school students are being invited to help commemorate America’s 250th birthday by designing bus wrap artwork that highlights the state’s role in the nation’s history, NJ TRANSIT announced.

The statewide student art competition marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and will select two winning designs — one from North Jersey and one from South Jersey — to be featured on NJ TRANSIT buses operating throughout the state during 2026.

The contest is open to high school students working through their school’s history and art departments, either individually or in teams. Each school may submit one final design. The selected artwork will be transformed into full bus wraps and displayed on buses traveling statewide as part of the yearlong anniversary observance.

According to NJ TRANSIT, submissions must include required NJ TRANSIT branding and the wording “America 250” or “250th Anniversary.” Designs will be judged on visual impact, historical relevance, storytelling and the ability to be scaled to a 40-foot bus.

Schools are required to submit one final artwork file, a brief artist statement explaining the historical inspiration and creative approach, and a list of participating students. All entries must be submitted by a designated teacher advisor, either by email or through NJ TRANSIT’s official submission portal.

The deadline for submissions is March 22. Late entries will not be accepted.

Additional information about the competition, including submission guidelines and a link to the entry portal, is available at https://www.njtransit.com/buswrap.
