Overnight travel restrictions announced for I-78 at New Jersey-Pennsylvania border, Oct. 21-26

Motorists traveling on I-78 at the New Jersey-Pennsylvania border should prepare for overnight travel restrictions from Oct. 21-26, as a Commission contractor undertakes essential construction activities, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

The schedule for lane closures is as follows:

  • 8 p.m. Monday, October 21, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, October 22: One lane closed on both I-78 eastbound and westbound near the I-78 Toll Bridge, leaving two of three travel lanes open.
  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 23: One lane closed on I-78 westbound approaching the I-78 Toll Bridge from New Jersey, with two of three travel lanes available.
  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, to 5 a.m. Thursday, October 24: Up to two lanes closed on both I-78 eastbound and westbound near the I-78 Toll Bridge, allowing only one of three travel lanes.
  • 8 p.m. Thursday, October 24, to 5 a.m. Friday, October 25: One lane closed on both I-78 eastbound and westbound in the vicinity of the I-78 Toll Bridge, with two of three lanes open.
  • 8 p.m. Friday, October 25, to 5 a.m. Saturday, October 26: Up to two lanes closed on both I-78 eastbound and westbound near the I-78 Toll Bridge, again allowing just one of three lanes.

While minor delays are expected, traffic volumes are typically lower during these overnight hours. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and exercise caution when navigating through active work zones, the commission said.

Travel restrictions may change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen factors. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed and plan their routes accordingly, the commission said.
