‘Read Across America Day’ and famed author Dr. Seuss is celebrated at Tabby’s Place
EAST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl Saturday attended an event at Tabby’s Place, a cat sanctuary located in East Amwell Township, for a celebration in recognition of Read Across America Day and famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
The event invited children ages 5-12 years old to read to lovable cats, enjoy treats and prizes, and meet the “Cat In The Hat” himself.
“The caring staff and volunteers at Tabby’s Place help provide a great service for our community and rescue cats in hopeless situations. Today’s ‘Read Across America’ event is a great reminder to residents of all ages to read, as well as highlight the many amenities available at Tabby’s Place including care available to cats with Feline Leukemia,” Kuhl said.
Tabby’s Place has a 9-year history of supporting young readers through its bi-monthly Pawsto Read program, an extension of the Read Across America Day tradition.
Tabby’s Place is a cat sanctuary for cats with Feline Leukemia (FeLV), a highly transmittable virus through casual contact between cats, such as sharing food bowls and grooming. FeLV cats cannot be safely housed with other felines, so separated space for recovery is important.
In October of 2023, through a generous donor, Tabby’s Place expanded their center to include “Quinn’s Corner”, a 5,000 square foot addition providing a safe space for cats to recover safely from FeLV.
Tabby’s Place is open to the public 7 days a week from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information email info@tabbysplace.org or visit www.tabbysplace.org.
