Roxbury police corral runaway goat after 40-minute chase Saturday

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Roxbury police had an unexpected encounter Saturday when officers were called for reports of a “suspicious character” wandering the streets — one with four legs, lightning speed, and “zero respect for fences.”

According to the department, the runaway goat led officers on an exhausting 40-minute chase before being safely captured by Patrolman Ponomarev and Lt. Gaffey.

“Goat wrangling is not in the job description, but apparently a hidden talent of these two,” police wrote in a social media post.

The department jokingly said the suspect was “charged with resisting capture and illegal grazing.”

Police did not release details about where the goat came from, but said it was safely secured following its short-lived adventure.
