
Sanitation worker seriously injured after being struck by vehicle in Morris County
PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — A sanitation worker was seriously injured Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while working along a roadway in Parsippany-Troy Hills, authorities said.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 7:03 a.m. near the intersection of Vail Road and Arnold Drive. The Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department received an emergency radio transmission from a Department of Public Works garbage truck, along with multiple 911 calls reporting the crash.
Emergency responders, including Par-Troy EMS and police officers, arrived at the scene and provided lifesaving care. The victim was transported by Par-Troy EMS and Saint Clare’s paramedics to Morristown Medical Center with severe injuries to his lower extremities.
According to a preliminary investigation, the 48-year-old man, an employee of the township’s Department of Public Works Recycling and Sanitation Division, was placing trash into the rear of a stopped garbage truck when a Nissan Altima struck the back of the truck. The worker was pinned between the vehicle and the garbage truck, police said.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, a 29-year-old man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit assisted at the scene.
