Somerset County man arrested in sexual assault of young girl

BERNARDSVILLE BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A Somerset County man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl in Bernardsville Borough, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Thomas Chirichella.

On June 21, 2021, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a 14-year-old girl was alleging that she was sexually assaulted from the ages of six through nine in Bernardsville, Chirichella said.

The girl was interviewed by authorities and she stated that she was sexually assaulted by Teodoro Velazquez, 68, of Bernardsville Borough numerous times between 2013 and 2017 while she was 6-years-old through 9-years-old, Chirichella said.

On Wednesday, March 23, as a result of the investigation, Velazquez was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was then lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, Chirichella said.
