Sussex County man sentenced to 5 years in prison for possession of firearm
NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has been sentenced to prison for possession of a firearm, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Sahil K. Kabse.
Keanu Alicea, 29, of Montague Township was sentenced on Jan. 31 before the Honorable Janine M. Allen, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Kabse said.
Alicea was sentenced to 5 years state prison with a 42-month mandatory period of parole ineligibility. He was credited with having already served 51 days in the county jail. He must also submit a DNA sample and pay $155 in mandatory fees and penalties, Kabse said.
Alicea previously pled guilty to second-degree possession of a firearm with the purpose to use it unlawfully against the person or property of another. This charge stemmed from an investigation in January and February of 2024, conducted by law enforcement agencies in Orange County, New York, and the Sussex County Guns, Gangs, and Narcotics Task Force, which was focused on illegal drug distribution in Orange County, Kabse said.
When police searched Alicea’s residence in Montague Township, they found a handgun along with controlled dangerous substances. He also pled guilty to illegal drug distribution in New York, Kabse said.
Alicea was represented by Orrin Fullerton, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Jerome Neidhardt.
