Tape on license plate leads to charges for Hackettstown man

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Tape on a license plate has led to charges against a Hackettstown man following a traffic stop in Washington Township, according to police.

On April 8, at around 1:58 p.m., an officer observed a silver Lexus sedan traveling westbound on Route 46 with an obscured license plate. Upon closer examination, the officer determined that the license plates had been altered with black tape to mask the actual registration, police said.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and during the investigation, it was learned that the driver—a 65-year-old male from Hackettstown—had both a suspended driver’s license and a suspended vehicle registration, police said.

The driver, whose name was not released, was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses and charged with obstructing a governmental function. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
