Vernon Township HS football player named to NJFCA Super 100 team

VERNON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — A Vernon Township High School football player has been named among the top players in the state, school officials announced.

Gavin Wilczewski, a linebacker on the varsity football team, was selected to the New Jersey Football Coaches Association Super 100 Team, which recognizes the top 100 high school football players in New Jersey.

Wilczewski had a standout 2025 season, recording 15 sacks in nine games — ranking fifth in the state and first in both the Super Football Conference and North Jersey. He also set school records for both single-season sacks (15) and career sacks (21).

In addition to the Super 100 selection, Wilczewski earned first-team honors at the league, area and county levels, along with honorable mention All-State recognition. He is set to continue his football career at Sussex County Community College.

Head Coach Joseph Down highlighted Wilczewski’s work ethic and development.

“Gavin’s success extends far beyond the football field. He demonstrated a tremendous work ethic during the offseason, especially in the weight room, where he worked hard to become bigger, stronger, and faster. His success on the field was a direct reflection of the effort he put in during the offseason.”

The Vernon football team also showed resilience throughout the season, rebounding from an early loss to secure a three-game road winning streak. One of the team’s highlights was a 35-28 victory over previously undefeated High Point.

The program saw strong contributions from younger players, while the junior varsity team finished the season undefeated, pointing to continued growth and depth within the program.

Reflecting on his high school career, Wilczewski expressed appreciation for his teammates and coaches.

“I cannot thank the players and coaches I have played with over the past four years at Vernon Township High School enough. There is nothing better than playing for your hometown and alongside the boys you have grown up with your entire life. There is something special about the Vernon football program, and I cannot believe how fast it all went by. I am incredibly honored to receive these postseason awards.”
