
Warren County man charged with DWI after police find him asleep behind wheel
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — A Warren County man was charged with driving while intoxicated after police responding to a welfare check found him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked on a residential street in Hackettstown, authorities said.
According to police, officers responded May 16 to a report of a vehicle parked on a residential street with the driver appearing to be asleep.
Upon arrival, officers located a man asleep in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition and an open alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle, police said.
During their investigation, officers observed signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety tests.
The driver was identified as Margarito Tambonero Tlapala, 41, of Hackettstown.
Police said Tambonero Tlapala was transported to Hackettstown Police Headquarters, where breath testing indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.23%, nearly three times New Jersey’s legal limit of 0.08%.
Tambonero Tlapala was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, reckless driving, driving while suspended, operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
