Woman charged with stealing employee’s cell phone at St. Clare’s Hospital

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Paterson woman was arrested last week after allegedly stealing an employee’s cell phone at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, according to township police.

Police said officers responded to the hospital around 12:34 p.m. on Nov. 6 after dispatch received a report of a theft. When officers arrived, hospital security had already detained the suspect, later identified as Maritza Badilla, 44, of Paterson.

An investigation determined that Badilla had taken an employee’s phone and left the immediate area before being stopped by security. Police also learned that Badilla had active warrants from Riverdale Borough Municipal Court ($1,250) and Paterson Municipal Court ($1,000).

Badilla was charged with theft by unlawful taking and taken to Denville Police Headquarters for processing. She was later released on her own recognizance by all involved municipalities.

Police said Badilla was provided future court dates in Morris County Superior Court, Riverdale Municipal Court, and Paterson Municipal Court.
