18-year-old charged in Somerset County armed robbery

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ (Somerset County) – An 18-year-old has been charged in relation to a robbery which occurred last week in Somerset County, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

On Tuesday, March 5, at around 12:22 a.m., police received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery that occurred in Bernardsville, McDonald said.

Upon responding, officers met with an adult male from Bernardsville, who reported being robbed by an unknown male who entered his home, brandished a knife. At one point, the victim attempted to struggle with the suspect and suffered minor injuries, McDonald said.

The suspect then escorted the victim to a nearby bank and demanded he withdraw money from the ATM, McDonald said.

Maicol Fernandez, 18, of Bernardsville was identified as the suspect responsible for the robbery. He was arrested on March 5 and charged with first-degree robbery, and second-degree burglary, McDonald said.

Fernandez was then lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, McDonald said.
