2 injured after SUV strikes utility pole, crashes through fence and flips over in Hunterdon County

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two people were injured after an SUV left the roadway, struck a utility pole, crashed through a fence and then flipped multiple times Wednesday night in Hunterdon County, according to a post on the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad’s Facebook page.

The crash happened at around 10:34 p.m. on Old Croton Road at Minebrook Park in Raritan Township. Police had been dispatched to the area after a power outage and a reporting party hearing “screeching tires,” authorities said.

When the officer arrived in the area, police found a heavily damaged Jeep Cherokee in the park with two patients, one of whom was entrapped in the SUV. The vehicle had apparently left the roadway, struck a utility pole, went through a ditch and then a wooden fence, and flipped multiple times before coming to rest behind the park’s sign near the driveway, the post said.

Rescue crews had to pop and remove the driver’s side rear door to gain access to the rear seat patient. Both patients were transported to Morristown Medical center, authorities said.

“Due to the violence of the crash, responders used thermal imaging cameras and a line search to check the area for anyone that might have been ejected from the vehicle during the multiple roll-overs. Luckily there were no additional patients,” the post said.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately clear.
