2 NJ State Troopers injured in crash during traffic stop on I-78 in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Two New Jersey State Troopers were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries after a car sideswiped their patrol car during a traffic stop early Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Troy McNair.

On Feb. 25, at around 2:50 a.m., troopers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on the right shoulder of I-78 westbound at milepost 26.4 in Readington Township, McNair said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Toyota passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on I-78 when the driver lost directional control and subsequently sideswiped the trooper’s car, McNair said.

Both troopers suffered minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital, McNair said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, McNair said.
