Picatinny Arsenal Attorney Robert Preziosi promoted to lieutenant colonel at Washington’s Headquarters Museum ceremony

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Robert Preziosi, Group Judge Advocate for the Northeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group (NEMARSG), was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel during a special ceremony at Washington’s Headquarters Museum in Morristown, on March 8.

The ceremony took place in the shadow of the historic Ford Mansion, which served as George Washington’s military headquarters during the Revolutionary War.

Preziosi, a native of Morristown, chose the site for his promotion ceremony to honor both his hometown and its significance in American history. The Ford Mansion, completed in 1774 and now part of the Morristown National Historic Park, was a key location during the winter encampment of the Continental Army from December 1779 to June 1780.

“I wanted to recognize Morristown’s significance in both our Army’s and republic’s history as part of my ceremony,” Preziosi said. “It was a dream of mine to be promoted in my hometown, in a place that connects our Army’s past to the present. To do so on the same ground where some of our original military leaders stood during such trying times is truly special.”

In his civilian career, Preziosi serves as a Department of the Army attorney at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center at Picatinny Arsenal, where his legal expertise is highly valued. Lt. Col. Craig A. Bonham II, the Picatinny Arsenal Garrison Commander, commended Preziosi’s professionalism and leadership, noting that even before his promotion, Preziosi exhibited the qualities of an officer far beyond his current rank.

During the ceremony, Lt. Col. Dominic Payne, Deputy Commander of NEMARSG, administered the oath of office. Preziosi’s father, Paul, along with Edward Wilbeck Jr., his mother’s cousin, participated in the ceremony, exchanging his shoulder boards from major to lieutenant colonel. Edward Wilbeck Jr. has a deeply personal connection to the military, as his father, 2nd Lt. Edward Wilbeck, was killed in action during World War II.

Preziosi, who was commissioned into the Army Reserve in 2008 after graduating from the Rutgers University ROTC program, has had a distinguished military career. He has served in various capacities, including as a civil and administrative law attorney at Aberdeen Proving Ground and later with the 101st Airborne Division. After transitioning to the reserves, Preziosi also started a successful civilian career as an assistant prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently, as part of the NEMARSG, Preziosi’s role involves supporting medical units across the northern United States. The NEMARSG is a key component of the Army Reserve, responsible for overseeing thousands of Soldiers across medical and support units.

Preziosi’s promotion marks not just a personal milestone but a recognition of his dedicated service to both the Army and his community.
