New Jersey fall turkey season is closed

NEW JERSEY – The New Jersey Fish and Game Council, on March 11, voted to close the Fall Either Sex Wild Turkey Hunting Season statewide, effective beginning Fall 2025.

This closure takes effect immediately.

Wild turkey harvest trends have continuously declined since the early 2000s, which mirrors the statewide population estimates. Wild turkeys face several threats, including habitat loss and predation. While hunting is not the sole cause of this decline, the current population level cannot support a hunting season that includes hen harvest, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The closure of this season is intended to increase hen survival and reproduction.
