Hunterdon County joins ‘Two Lights for Tomorrow’ to mark 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Commissioner Zach Rich announced Hunterdon County’s participation in the “Two Lights for Tomorrow” event, a statewide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s legendary midnight ride.

The historic event, which took place overnight on April 18–19, 1775, served as a call to arms that prepared the Massachusetts militia for the battles of Lexington and Concord—the first military engagements of the American Revolution.

To honor this pivotal moment in American history, the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission will illuminate the third-floor windows of the Historic County Courthouse on Thursday, April 24. The tribute aligns with New Jersey’s observance of the event, which is moved to April 24 this year due to the state holiday on April 18.

Commissioner Zach Rich, who also serves as liaison to the Cultural & Heritage Commission, emphasized the importance of honoring the nation’s revolutionary heritage through initiatives like this one. “The ‘Two Lights for Tomorrow’ serves as a powerful symbol of unity and courage—values that remain as vital today as they were 250 years ago,” Rich said. “By joining communities across New Jersey in this commemoration, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving and celebrating our history.”

The national initiative is promoted by Revolution NJ and the New Jersey Historical Commission, encouraging communities to use light as a symbol of remembrance and reflection.

Hunterdon County residents are invited to visit the Historic Courthouse and witness this illuminating tribute to the bravery of the nation’s forefathers.
