JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A Lake Hopatcong woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured two pedestrians on Brady Road in Jefferson Township late last month, police said Thursday.
According to a statement from Captain Robert Bush of the Jefferson Township Police Department, 44-year-old Oxana A. Prokofyeva was arrested on July 10 following a detailed investigation into the June 28 incident in the Lake Hopatcong section of the township.
Prokofyeva was charged with multiple offenses, including third-degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, fourth-degree tampering with evidence, and fourth-degree hindering apprehension. She also faces several motor vehicle violations, police said. She was processed and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
Investigators credited their patrol officers, detective bureau, and services division with reviewing hours of video surveillance and conducting field investigations to identify the vehicle and suspect. Police also thanked Jefferson Township residents and business owners who provided video evidence.
“We would not have been able to complete this investigation without the support of the great business owners and residents of Jefferson Twp. who assisted us,” the department said in the release.
The Jefferson Township Police Department also expressed appreciation for the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
