Fire damages home in Sussex County; no injuries reported
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Firefighters from Byram Township and several mutual aid departments responded to a working structure fire Thursday afternoon in the Lee Hill section of the township.
According to the Byram Township Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 2:45 p.m. to a reported structure fire.
The first arriving engine found smoke coming from a 2½-story wood-frame home. Shortly afterward, the incident commander requested a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.
Firefighters worked in extreme heat to bring the blaze under control while preserving much of the residence, the department said.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Byram Township Fire Official and the Byram Township Police Department.
The fire department thanked its mutual aid partners for their assistance.
“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of our mutual aid partners for their rapid response, teamwork, and professionalism. Incidents like these are a reminder of the importance of strong regional partnerships and the dedication of the volunteer firefighters and first responders who serve our communities every day.”
With high temperatures continuing across the region, the department also reminded residents to take precautions during the heat.
“As temperatures remain dangerously high, please remember to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities when possible, and check on your neighbors—especially the elderly and those who may be vulnerable to the heat.”
