Two Morris County businesses among eight added to N.J. labor department’s public violations list

MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has added eight businesses — including two based in Morris County — to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List (The WALL), a public list of employers barred from receiving government contracts due to unresolved wage, benefit, or tax violations.

The newly listed employers collectively owe $540,531.92 in unpaid wages, penalties, and other liabilities, NJDOL announced this month. Businesses added to The WALL are prohibited from entering into public contracts with state, county, or local governments until all debts are paid in full.

Among those added are Clover 427 Security Group LLC of Mountain Lakes, which owes $91,569.57, and Building Materials Manufacturing LLC of Parsippany, which owes $71,724.10 in unpaid liabilities under the New Jersey Gross Income Tax Act.

Established through bipartisan legislation in 2020, The WALL is part of the state’s broader strategy to address worker misclassification, wage theft, and noncompliance with labor laws. The program is now in its second year and has listed 280 businesses to date, which collectively owe more than $26 million in outstanding liabilities.

“The WALL is a powerful enforcement tool that enables the department to publicly name companies that shortchange their workers and skip required contributions to programs such as unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation,” NJDOL said in its announcement.

NJDOL said businesses are warned before being added to the list and given 20 days to resolve outstanding issues. Since its launch in September 2023, the department has recovered more than $650,000 from employers either listed on The WALL or warned of impending placement.

Other businesses added in July include employers from Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Monmouth, and Ocean counties. Violations range from failure to pay prevailing wages to noncompliance with workers’ compensation laws.

The state recently revamped its online WALL platform to include improved search features, allowing users to track listed businesses by name, location, and posting date. The full list is publicly available at nj.gov/labor/wall.

State procurement officials are required to cross-reference The WALL before awarding contracts, in addition to checking the debarment list and other accountability measures.
