Two arrested on drug charges after Route 22 traffic stop in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Hillside man and a Clinton Township woman were arrested earlier this month on narcotics charges following a traffic stop on Route 22 in Clinton Township, according to police.

Police said that on Sept. 7, an officer on routine patrol observed the driver of a white Chevrolet van commit several motor vehicle violations near Potterstown Road. The driver was identified as Tyrone C. Riley, 37, of Hillside, and the passenger as Kimberly S. Sanders, 42, of Clinton Township.

Both occupants allegedly displayed suspicious behavior, and police said they granted consent for officers to search the vehicle. The search revealed narcotics and drug paraphernalia containing narcotics residue.

Police later learned that Sanders had an active warrant from Jersey City Municipal Court, authorities said. Both Riley and Sanders were arrested and taken to police headquarters for processing.

Riley was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and issued motor vehicle summonses for improper turn and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was released pending a court appearance.

Sanders was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and contempt of court, police said. She also received a summons for failure to wear a seatbelt and was transferred to the Hunterdon County Jail on the active warrant.
