Powerball jackpot climbs to $1.5 billion for Saturday drawing

The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.5 billion for Saturday night’s drawing, extending the game’s holiday jackpot streak, lottery officials said. The prize carries an estimated cash value of $686.5 million.

Saturday’s jackpot ranks as the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the seventh-largest among U.S. lottery jackpots.

“This jackpot is set to deliver the ultimate windfall,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “The jackpot grows with every $2 ticket sold, and a portion of each ticket supports local public programs and services. We encourage everyone to have fun and play responsibly.”

The jackpot rolled over after no ticket matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing. The winning numbers were 25, 33, 53, 62 and 66, with a red Powerball of 17. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

While there was no jackpot winner, lottery officials reminded players to check their tickets, as numerous prizes were awarded nationwide. Six tickets matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes. Those tickets were sold in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Two tickets — sold in Arizona and Massachusetts — matched all five white balls and included the Power Play option, doubling each prize to $2 million.

The drawing also produced 72 tickets that won $50,000 prizes and 14 tickets that won $200,000 prizes. In California, prize amounts are determined on a pari-mutuel basis and vary depending on ticket sales and the number of winners.

In the Double Play drawing, a ticket sold in Florida matched all five black balls to win $500,000. Double Play is a $1 add-on feature that allows players to use their Powerball numbers in a separate drawing for a chance to win up to $10 million.

Saturday’s drawing will be the 45th of the current jackpot run, setting a Powerball record for the most drawings in a single jackpot cycle. The jackpot was last won on Sept. 6, when two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas split a $1.787 billion prize.

This marks only the second time in Powerball history that back-to-back jackpots have exceeded $1 billion. The first occurred in 2023, when jackpots of $1.08 billion and $1.765 billion were won in California.

If won, the jackpot can be claimed as a $1.5 billion annuity paid over 30 years or a lump-sum cash option of $686.5 million, before taxes. The annuity includes an initial payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of ticket sales remain in the jurisdiction where they are sold to support public programs. Since its launch in 1992, Powerball has generated more than $37 billion for good causes.

Powerball drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. ET.
