Louise Childs Branch in Stanhope seeks seed donations for new seed library

STANHOPE BOROUGH, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Sussex County Library System is seeking community support as it works to launch a new seed library at the Louise Childs Branch.

Library officials said the branch is currently accepting seed donations to help establish the collection, which will eventually provide free seeds to patrons.

Donations may include harvested seeds or unused seed packets, preferably from 2025 or later. The library is requesting vegetable, fruit, herb and flower seeds only and is not accepting bulbs. Those donating loose or harvested seeds will be asked to complete a short form identifying the seeds.

Once launched, the seed library will promote home gardening, sustainability and local food production.

The Louise Childs Branch seed library will join an existing program at the Dorothy Henry Branch in Vernon, expanding access to seed-sharing opportunities across the Sussex County Library System.

Seeds will be accepted during regular library hours through April 30. Officials asked that donations not be placed in book drops.

More information about the donation drive and other activities is available through the Sussex County Library System’s website.
