Blairstown voters reject levy cap referendum

BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Blairstown voters overwhelmingly rejected a levy cap referendum that would have allowed the township to exceed state-imposed budget limits.

According to unofficial results from the April 21 election, 920 voters, or 78.23%, voted “no” on the public question, while 256 voters, or 21.77%, voted “yes.” A total of 1,176 votes were cast.

The ballot measure asked whether the Township Committee should be authorized to increase the 2026 municipal budget beyond the legal cap by $800,000.

Township officials had said the proposed increase would fund several areas, including police salaries and wages, road expenses, employee group insurance and other operational costs.

A “yes” vote would have permitted the township to adopt the higher spending plan, while a “no” vote required officials to keep the budget within state limits.
