Bucco introduces bill to name Route 10 the ‘American Legion Memorial Highway’
TRENTON, N.J. — Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) has introduced legislation to designate State Highway Route 10 as the “American Legion Memorial Highway,” honoring the service and achievements of American Legion members dating back to World War I and recognizing the continued support the organization provides to veterans and active-duty service members.
“From advocating for veterans and active-duty personnel to mentoring youth and strengthening our communities, the American Legion has always gone above and beyond to support those who’ve sacrificed for our freedoms,” Bucco said. “Their work embodies the very best of our nation’s values, and designating Route 10 as the ‘American Legion Memorial Highway’ is a small way to honor their unwavering commitment to those who serve.”
The proposal follows a request from Stanley A. Kasiski, a member of American Legion Post 59 in Morristown, who noted the absence of signage honoring the organization’s contributions.
“I am very pleased that Senator Bucco has taken on this project to recognize the designation of State Highway 10 as ‘The American Legion Memorial Highway,’” Kasiski said. “As a member of Post 59 Morristown, I brought the lack of signage honoring the veterans who belong to the Legion to Senator Bucco’s attention and was very grateful that he has followed through on getting this project off the ground. I am proud of my association with the American Legion and hope that in the near future, I will be able to view these memorial signs honoring this veteran organization who contributes greatly to our communities.”
Dan Channel, State Commander of the New Jersey American Legion, also praised the effort, saying it reflects the Legion’s century-long legacy of service.
“I would like to thank Senator Bucco and his team for championing the installation of signage on State Highway 10 to identify it as ‘The American Legion Memorial Highway,’” Channel said. “The American Legion has long been a pillar of service, advocacy, and community support. These memorial signs will stand as a lasting tribute to the men and women who have worn the uniform and continue to serve through the Legion’s mission.”
