County College of Morris invites public to free Data Science Night on Nov. 13
RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — County College of Morris will host its annual “Data Science Night: Data Under the Stars” on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m., with check-in at 5:30 p.m. The free program, open to ages 15 and older, offers a hands-on introduction to data science at the college’s campus in Randolph.
Attendees can join interactive workshops in data visualization, natural language processing, statistical analysis with RStudio, Python programming and Excel analytics. The evening also features a visit to CCM’s Longo Planetarium for “Data Under the Dome,” plus networking and a student and alumni panel.
Data science remains one of the fastest-growing fields; employment of data scientists is projected to increase 34% from 2024 to 2034, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, with a median annual wage of $112,590 across industries including health care, finance, technology and government.
“Through data science, we can answer questions and solve societal challenges,” said Professor Nancy E. Binowski of CCM’s Department of Information Technologies. “With AI now poised to impact many aspects of our daily lives, it is timely and imperative that we learn how to use data science and AI ethically to make positive impacts in society.”
CCM is accepting applications for its for-college-credit Certificate of Achievement in Data Analytics, a five-course program available on campus or fully online through the Virtual Campus. Credits may apply toward CCM’s Associate of Science in Data Science. Representatives from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rowan University and Rutgers University will be on site to discuss transfer options.
The college’s Center for Workforce Development will also share details on its noncredit certificate in Data Analytics and Visualization and related short courses, including Business Analytics with Excel, Microsoft Power BI, SQL for Data Management, Introduction to R Programming and Tableau, as well as an IT Bootcamp.
Pre-registration is required. To register, visit ccm.edu/events/data-science-night-2/.
The event will be held at 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph. Parking is available in Lots 6 and 7, with check-in at the Cohen Café in Cohen Hall. For questions, contact Professor Nancy E. Binowski at nbinowski@ccm.edu or 973-328-5775.
