Crash in Hunterdon County involving horse trailer sends woman to hospital

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A woman was injured and several horses were removed from a trailer after a pickup truck and a commercial van collided Tuesday afternoon in Raritan Township, police said.

The crash happened at about 3:54 p.m. at the intersection of Route 12 and Route 579, according to the Raritan Township Police Department. Police said a Ford commercial van was traveling north on Route 579 when it collided with a Ram pickup truck pulling a 26-foot horse trailer that was headed west on Route 12.

After impact, both vehicles veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole, which then fell onto both vehicles.

Responding officers found an adult female passenger in the pickup truck injured and trapped inside. Rescue crews extricated her, and she was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center with facial lacerations and injuries to both knees, police said.

Several horses inside the trailer were transferred to a second trailer. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The Raritan Township Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
