Crews rescue injured person after fall from tree in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Emergency responders rescued a person Sunday night who fell from a tree along a trail near Rockafellows Mill Road and River Avenue in Readington Township, according to first responders.

Whitehouse Rescue Squad, Whitehouse Fire Company, Three Bridges Volunteer Fire Company, Hunterdon Health paramedics, and Readington Township Police Department were dispatched to the scene. Hunterdon County Department of Public Safety dispatchers provided GPS coordinates from the 911 call to help locate the individual.

First responders walked nearly a mile down the trail to reach the injured person, who sustained injuries to both legs. Due to muddy and deteriorated trail conditions, access to the scene was challenging.

Paramedics provided advanced medical care on-site. After the person was stabilized and secured for transport, crews navigated the terrain with spotters guiding them through areas of deep water and mud. A backup crew with a stokes basket and litter wheel was staged at the trailhead in case of impassable conditions.

A Whitehouse Rescue basic life support unit was waiting at the trail entrance to complete the transfer, and the individual was taken to a local trauma center.

Officials credited the smooth coordination between agencies for the successful and safe extraction.
