
Driver issued summonses after fatally striking Hunterdon County crossing guard
HIGH BRIDGE BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Hunterdon County man has been issued summonses following a fatal crash in High Bridge Borough on November 27, 2024, which claimed the life of a local crossing guard, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson.
Steven Leyden, 57, of Glen Gardner Borough, was cited by the High Bridge Police Department for failure to yield to a pedestrian and careless driving. Leyden remained on the scene after the crash, Robeson said.
The investigation revealed that Robert Bork, 79, of High Bridge Borough, was struck by Leyden while in the crosswalk at the intersection of County Route 513 and Larrison Avenue. Leyden was traveling south on County Route 513 when the incident occurred, Robeson said.
Bork, who was employed as a crossing guard for the High Bridge Police Department, was flown to Morristown Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries, Robeson said.
Responding to the scene were the High Bridge Police Department, High Bridge Fire Department, Annandale Fire Department, South Branch Emergency Services, and the Forensic Analysis Collision Team (F.A.C.T.) from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
The crash was investigated by the High Bridge Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s F.A.C.T. team.
