Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Sussex County

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Firefighters from multiple agencies extinguished a structure fire in Sussex County on Thursday night.

On Dec. 26. at around 9:44 p.m., the Sussex County Sheriff’s 911 Center alerted volunteers from Hampton Township Fire & Rescue, Stillwater Area Volunteer Fire Company, Fredon Volunteer Fire Company, and Newton Volunteer Fire Department to a possible fire on West Lakeside Lane in Hampton Township.

Upon arrival, units discovered a chimney fire that had spread to the roof line, escalating into a structure fire. Andover Township Volunteer Fire Department was called in to provide a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) as units worked to contain the blaze.

Firefighters battled the fire for nearly 2.5 hours, chasing it through several void spaces before finally extinguishing it.

The fire is under investigation by the Hampton Township Fire Prevention Bureau. This marks the second structure fire in the township this week.
