HAMPTON TOWSNHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Firefighters extinguished a blaze in Sussex County amid subzero temperatures early Monday morning, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Dec. 23, at around 7:50 a.m., the Sussex County Sheriff’s 911 Center received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a structure fire in the Carriage Acres development in Hampton Township. Upon arrival, the fire chief observed smoke coming from all sides of the building and immediately confirmed the fire to dispatch.

Firefighters arrived, deployed several lines to protect surrounding exposures, and knocked down the fire. Units from Hampton, Newton, Stillwater, Fredon, Lafayette, Andover, Frankford, Branchville, Wantage, Franklin, and Sandyston responded to assist in battling the blaze.

Due to subzero temperatures and freezing conditions, local and state agencies, including Hampton DPW, State DOT, and Sussex County DPW, were also called in for traffic control and salting operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hampton Township Fire Prevention Bureau and the Sussex County Fire Marshal’s Office.
