Hundreds turn out for Hunterdon County’s Ident-A-Shred event; over 41,000 pounds of documents destroyed

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon County Commissioner Director John Lanza recently announced the success of the recent Ident-A-Shred event, held Saturday, April 12, at the Route 12 County Complex in Raritan Township.

Organized by Sheriff Fred Brown and County Clerk Mary Melfi, the event drew significant participation from residents, highlighting the importance of secure document disposal in the community.

“Secure document shredding is not only about protecting personal information but also about giving our residents the tools to take proactive steps in safeguarding their identities,” Lanza said.

The turnout was substantial, with more than 400 cars recorded. A total of 41,300 pounds of documents were shredded—enough to fill two trucks. Residents came together to safely dispose of sensitive materials, contributing to the event’s overwhelming success.

Sheriff Brown, who actively participated throughout the day, said, “It was good to see so many residents take part in protecting their personal information. Our team worked tirelessly to unload cars and keep things moving efficiently. This was truly a team effort, and I’m proud of what we accomplished together.”

The next Ident-A-Shred event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, at the Route 12 County Complex. It will run from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until the trucks are full. Residents are encouraged to participate in this community initiative.

“I’m proud to live in a county that offers valuable recycling programs that help our residents and our environment,” said County Clerk Melfi. “I thank the Commissioners and Sheriff Brown for their continued support of the Ident-A-Shred program. See you on June 7!”

“The success of events like these is a testament to the dedication of our community and the hard work of our county officials. County Clerk Mary Melfi and Sheriff Brown put in exceptional effort to make this event run smoothly, and their hard work is appreciated,” Lanza said.
