Hunterdon County woman faces drug charges after Route 22 traffic stop
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Milford Borough woman is facing multiple drug-related charges after Clinton Township police said she was found in possession of methamphetamine, prescription pills, and syringes during a June 2 traffic stop on Route 22.
Catherine G. Schumacher, 40, was pulled over after a patrol officer observed her white Toyota commit a traffic violation on Route 22 West near Round Valley Access Road, according to Clinton Township Police Chief Thomas A. DeRosa.
During the stop, a second officer noticed signs of narcotics activity inside the vehicle. After Schumacher refused consent to search, a K-9 officer and his partner, Tapko, were brought in to conduct a free-air sniff around the vehicle. Tapko alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a probable cause search.
Officers said they recovered a clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine, a Xanax pill, and five syringes with suspected methamphetamine residue.
Schumacher was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of Xanax, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for failure to keep right and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) in a motor vehicle.
After her initial processing at Clinton Township Police Headquarters, Schumacher was transported to the Hunterdon County Jail and later transferred to the Warren County Jail. During intake there, authorities said she was found in possession of an additional bag of methamphetamine, resulting in further charges for possession of CDS and failure to turn over CDS.
