Lambertville employees exposed to cleaning agent, taken to hospital for evaluation

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Two municipal employees were hospitalized Tuesday morning after being exposed to peracetic acid while collecting garbage at the Lambertville Municipal Utilities Authority, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 30, according to city officials. The workers came in contact with the cleaning agent, which is used by the authority.

Both employees were taken to Cedar Crest at Lehigh Valley Network in Allentown, Pa., for evaluation and treatment.

As a precaution, the Hunterdon County Hazardous Materials Unit was dispatched to the area to contain and dispose of the substance.

Authorities said the incident is isolated and there is no immediate danger to the public.

The matter remains under investigation by the Lambertville Police Department.
