Man arrested for firing shot that damaged neighbor’s property in Sussex County sentenced
NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has been sentenced after firing a shot that damaged a neighbor’s property in Franklin Borough, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray.
Kevin R. Kaye, 53, of Franklin Borough, was sentenced on Dec. 18 before the Honorable Stuart A. Minkowitz, A.J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.
Kaye was sentenced to three years in state prison with a one-year mandatory period of parole ineligibility. He was credited with 144 days already served in county jail. He must also submit a DNA sample and pay $1,692 in restitution, along with $280 in mandatory fees and penalties, Murray added.
Kaye previously pled guilty to third-degree unlawful possession of a loaded rifle and third-degree endangering another person.
The charges stemmed from a July 2024 investigation by the Franklin Borough Police Department, following a report of an unlawfully possessed and discharged rifle that caused damage to a neighbor’s property and endangered people on the adjacent property.
Kaye was represented by Thomas F. Militano, Esq., and the state was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Jerome Neidhardt.
