Morris County commissioners reaffirm support for Jewish community as Chanukah ends
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — As Chanukah came to a close, the Morris County Board of County Commissioners issued a statement reaffirming its support for the Jewish community and condemning antisemitism.
In the statement released on the final day of the Festival of Lights, the commissioners reflected on the significance of Chanukah while denouncing acts of violence and hatred directed at Jewish communities worldwide.
“On this final day of Chanukah, the Morris County Board of County Commissioners sends its warmest wishes to our Jewish brothers and sisters throughout the world. While terrorists marred the start of this year’s Festival of Lights with the senseless and cowardly mass shooting of Jewish people celebrating in Australia, they failed to dim our resolve – and the resolve of all decent people — to rid this world of the disease of antisemitism. These cowards have only emboldened us to further embrace the Jewish people, our shared values and our mutual pursuit of peace and freedom. We step united into a New Year committed to curing the world of hatred.”
The board said commissioners were honored to attend Chanukah ceremonies held across Morris County during the holiday season, noting the importance of standing in solidarity with the Jewish community.
The commissioners also extended their best wishes to residents for a peaceful and prosperous 2026, emphasizing their continued commitment to promoting unity, understanding and respect throughout the county.
