N.J. warns residents of phishing text scam posing as Division of Taxation

TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Division of Taxation is warning residents about fraudulent text messages that appear to come from the agency but are actually phishing attempts.

Officials said the messages reference tax matters and often include links or urgent prompts to respond. The Division stressed that it does not contact taxpayers by text message regarding accounts, refunds, or other official business.

“Cybersecurity and the protection of taxpayer information are top priorities for the Division,” the agency said in a statement.

Residents are urged not to respond, not to click on any links, and to delete the messages immediately.

The Division said it is continuing efforts to protect residents from fraud and encouraged the public to remain vigilant.
