New Jersey ranks 7th most diverse state in 2025, WalletHub study finds

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey ranks as the seventh most diverse state in the country in 2025, according to a new report from WalletHub.

The personal-finance website released its findings Tuesday as Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide and as women now hold nearly 12% of Fortune 500 CEO positions for the first time.

WalletHub compared all 50 states across six categories: socio-economic, cultural, economic, household, religious and political diversity. The analysis aimed to determine where the most idea and identity exchanges occur and where populations remain more homogeneous.

Diversity in New Jersey (1=Most Diverse, 25=Avg.):

  • Overall rank for New Jersey: 7th
  • 4th – Educational-Attainment Diversity
  • 6th – Racial & Ethnic Diversity
  • 2nd – Linguistic Diversity
  • 21st – Birthplace Diversity
  • 31st – Industry Diversity*
  • 12th – Generational Diversity
  • 6th – Household-Size Diversity
  • 17th – Religious Diversity

*Includes civilian employed population aged 16 and older
