No injuries after awning collapses onto truck at Hunterdon County hotel
LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Emergency crews responded Thursday night after an awning collapsed onto a truck at the Inn at Lambertville Station, prompting a hazardous materials response that lasted into the early morning hours.
Authorities were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. following a report of an awning collapse onto a truck at the hotel. Upon arrival, firefighters found a box truck wedged beneath the hotel’s wooden structural awning.
No injuries were reported, officials said.
Fire officials established command at the scene and requested the response of the city’s building official. Hunterdon County Hazmat and the Board of Health were also notified.
After reviewing the truck’s transportation paperwork and bill of lading, and based on information provided by the driver, officials requested a full hazardous materials response.
The Hunterdon County Hazmat Team responded and, with assistance from firefighters, transferred hazardous materials from the damaged truck to another vehicle.
As a precaution, firefighters established a water supply and deployed a hose line while crews worked to mitigate the situation.
Once the hazardous materials were safely transferred, heavy-duty wreckers were brought to the scene and used to lift the structure, allowing the truck to be removed.
Emergency crews cleared the scene and departed by approximately 4 a.m. Friday.
