Pedestrian struck, killed by tractor-trailer on I-80 in Warren County

HARDWICK TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – An Essex County woman died after being struck by a tractor-trailer Monday morning on Interstate 80 in Warren County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash happened at around 8:21 a.m. on Interstate 80 eastbound at milepost 0.3 in Hardwick Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling east on I-80 and a Honda passenger vehicle was parked and disabled on the right shoulder, Lebron said.

The tractor-trailer then entered the right shoulder and struck Valdaishi Simpkins, 27, of Irvington, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, Simpkins suffered fatal injuries, Lebron said.

The accident remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Lebron said.
